Usually something I would not read regularly. For example, as malinchista as it sounds, I didn't use to read in Spanish. I started reading Gabriel Garcia Marquez in a trip 3 years ago, and now I read a lot in Spanish. Oh, well. I get to know more and to expand the possibilities of what to read.
Which reminds me I haven't really read anything out of what I read for school lately. I have been enjoying immensely the novels I'm reading for my classes. Vargas Llosa and Puig are AWESOME, ppl. And my feminist class, me loves. COmpletely. But I want to read something just because I want to, y'know? And god knows I have a lot of books there waiting to be read. I honestly want this semester to be over NOW. I thought I had hard semesters before. I didn't know what hard was.

I am going to be a TA (Teacher Assistant) this year!! LOL
couldn't resist blurting that out XD I still don't know details, but this monday we have orientation and we are assigned to the professor we will be assisting and stuff. I'm excited even though I know it'll make my semester harder than it already was. But oh well. I'm enjoying most of my classes, with doesn't happen very often. And I'm officially taking more Spanish classes than English ones, and it's a bit scary. I mean, Spanish is my native language and all, but all my university classes have been in the most part in English, and I learned to write and analyze in English, and you would think it's the same thing in Spanish, but it is not.... Anyway, I like these classes. Very much.
In other news, and this is going to be in Spanish...

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is opening September 18th in IMAX 3D!! How cool is that? I just saw G-force in Real 3D, and I liked Real 3D, to be honest. It looks pretty cool, but honestly, IMAX 3D is the thing. You should definitely try it on IMAX 3D if you have an IMAX theatre close to you. You can check that, and showings on IMAX.com.
It is based on the children's book, and it promises to be very entertaining for all ages, so goo! I'll be talking about it when I see it, of course.
And, I leave y'all with the trailer.

Under the Sea 3D is coming back to some IMAX theatres this Wed.
Unfortunately, not to the one available to me, which sucks. Anyway, if you are interested, check if it will open at your local IMAX theatre at IMAX.com
Also, for anyone interested, I have some cool goodies, courtesy of IMAX, of Under the Sea 3D.
Wallpapers, AOL icons, a Screensaver.
Let me know if you're interested. They are pretty cool.
I'll probably put at least the Wallpapers up here sometime this week, but you are all welcome to ask for them directly if you want.
I'll be posting them on my Facebook, for sure, so you can go there, too.

IMAX on Facebook
Well.. so I watched it.
It was... okay.
I mean, talking about being as faithful to the books as possible, it was great. But HBP as a movie? Ah... it was pretty linear. There was no climax, no nothing. It was like "this is just because youneed to know some stuff before the next one" ... The trailer suggested a lot of action, and there was next to none. I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen it, so I won't say anymore.
Overall, I liked it. Yes. As a fan I liked it. But as someone who likes movies, it was a little boring, to be honest.
I hope the IMAX experience does make it better as ScreenCrave suggests, though. But then again, I love everything IMAX, so...
So what did you all think about it?

People and internet pages have asked what my favorite quote is... here it is:
"I can believe things that are true and I can believe things that aren't true and I can believe things where nobody knows if they're true or not. I can believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny and Marilyn Monroe and the Beatles and Elvis and Mister Ed. Listen–I believe that people are perfectible, that knowledge is infinite, that the world is run by secret banking cartels and is visited by aliens on a regular basis, nice ones who look like wrinkledy lemurs and bad ones who mutilate cattle and want our water and our women. I believe that the future sucks and I believe that the future rocks and I believe that one day White Buffalo Woman is going to come back and kick everyone's ass. I believe that all men are just overgrown boys with deep problems communicating and that the decline of good sex in America is coincident with the decline in drive-in movie theaters from state to state. I believe that all politicians are unprincipled crooks and I still believe that they are better than the alternative. I believe that California is going to sink into the sea when the big one comes, while Florida is going to dissolve into madness and alligators and toxic waste. I believe that antibacterial soap is destroying our resistance to dirt and disease so that one day we'll all be wiped out by the common cold like the Martians in War of The Worlds. I believe that the greatest poets of the last century were Edith Sitwell and Don Marquis, that jade is dried dragon sperm, and that thousands of years ago in a former life I was a one-armed Siberian shaman. I believe that mankind's destiny lies in the stars. I believe that candy really did taste better when I was a kid, that it's aerodynamically impossible for a bumblebee to fly, that light is a wave and a particle, that there's a cat in a box somewhere who's alive and dead at the same time (although if they don't ever open the box to feed it it'll eventually just be two different kinds of dead), and that there are stars in the universe billions of years older than the universe itself. I believe in a personal god who cares about me and worries and oversees everything I do. I believe in an impersonal god who set the universe in motion and went off to hang with her girlfriends and doesn't even know that I'm alive. I believe in an empty and godless universe of causal chaos, background noise, and sheer blind luck. I believe that anyone who says that sex is overrated just hasn't done it properly. I believe that anyone who claims to know what's going on will lie about the little things too. I believe in absolute honesty and sensible social lies too. I believe in a woman's right to choose, a baby's right to live, that while all human life is sacred there's nothing wrong with the death penalty if you can trust the legal system implicitly, and that no one but a moron would ever trust the legal system. I believe that life is a game, that life is a cruel joke, and that life is what happens when you're alive and that you might as well lie back and enjoy it."

So.. I've been absent for a long time. But I plan on coming back more often now haha.
So news! Last night I went to the midnight screening of Transformers 2... It was VERY crowded. We had the 12:03 tickets. There were almost 20 screenings, one minute apart from each other. And when we got out, we heard they had opened three more at 3:50, 51 and 52... IN THE MORNING. So yes, lots and lots of people wanting to watch Transformers at the wee hours of the morning. It was worth it. I'm not one to go to midnight screenings of very commercial movies such as this one, but everyone was excited and they got me excited too, so.. yay!
I have to be honest. I thought I wouldn't like it. I mean, it's a sequel, and one of a very commercial movie that at first I thought was only made so Hasbro could sell again tons of little Transformers toys...Well, I was wrong. Now, as all of you know, action movies today need to have big explosions, hot guys, half-naked girls, lots of battles, you know all that jazz. But most movies today seem to force all that into what would have been a very nice plot without that in order to catch the attention of the masses... Well... Transformers (both parts, but especially this one) has surprised me because it manages to incorporate ALL that WITHOUT forcing it. It blends naturally into the movie, and it ends up being just AWESOME... for lack of a better word. Yes, it is aimed at the masses, yes, it is perhaps very commercial, but it is also a Great movie that you should all see.
Some screaming moments (just a few because they're a lot of them on midnight screenings...):
>First appearance of Shia LaBoeuf (I still can't see what other girls see in him, but oh well...)
>First appearance of Optimus Prime (I squeed there too... and I'm still confused as the why we all did it... how can a robot be hot? I guess he's just so cool we all translate it into that).
>At the IMAX logo> Well, maybe that was only me... and my sister... and a guy somewhere close to us... but still.. GO IMAX! hahaha
>Bumblebee> You'll have to see the movie. He's awesome! XD
And a lot more, but honestly, you'll have to see it for yourself.
I am very sad that we don't have a local IMAX Theater because the IMAX version is slightly longer, and those battles just BEG to bee seen on IMAX. But I am definitely go to San Antonio some time next week for the IMAX experience. If you guys have an IMAX Theatre nearby, don't hesitate... GO! And if not, well, at least enjoy the regular 35mm version. It's worth it.

I honestly have nothing interesting to post, lately. I just got home in Mexico and things are just normal. My brother and sister are still going to classes, until july, I think, which really sucks. I want to go somewhere this summer, but well... don't have any money to go with my friends, and my family can't until my siblings are free... So I'll just concentrate on translating and reading and not getting the flu... yay.
Still no news from the office of Graduate Studies, which makes me very, very uneasy. I need an acceptance letter and an I-20 to renew my visa, which expires in June... Well, let's hope everything goes all right.
I have a new semi-obsession with the Beatles, so I've been pretty much listening non-stop to a few Beatles' cd's I borrowed from a friend of mine...
I am craving to read something Anne Rice-y, but I left my A.R. books in Laredo, so I'm planning to go get them soon. Probably some Neil Gaiman, too. And I may think about finishing reading Beedle the Bard, which amazingly hasn't caught my attention at all. I'm surprised, really. Since I finished reading book 7 (the morning after its midnight release), I lost almost all interest in HP. I mean, I will see the remaining movies, but I don't even know when the 6th is coming out.. sometime in June or July... I'm ashamed to confess, but I think I'm almost officially out of the HP fandom.
Twilight, well, I like it... a lot, but still, I think I enjoy a lot more Twilight fanfiction than the books. No offense to Twilighters, but after trying to re-read the books, I realized I just couldn't... Stephenie Meyer could have done so much better... specially in Book 4... I just go back to the books when I need to get something clearer when I'm translating ff.. and of course, whenever I can get my hands on a Spanish translation, too, because I need to know the terms the translator used, so I don't confuse Spanish readers...
And finally.. I have to confess that LJ has lost a battle against Facebook. I still hold a very, very special place for LJ in my mind, but I honestly spend most of my free online time in Facebook, there's just so much more there, and more ways to express yourself. Of course, being a writer, a translator, or whatever that involves writing, it's good to have a blog to do just that, but when you're in no mood to ramble about nothing in particular, Facebook is just the place. Plus, I have a lot more of my friends there.
And I think I'm done talking about nothing.
Have a great summer everyone. :D
And, I'll try to continue with the Spanish lessons sometime in the near future. I just need inspiration.

it's been ages since i updated this.
Well... I have been very, very busy. I'm starting my master's next Fall if everything goes according to planned, so I'm staying in the states, yay!
The whole influenza thing has left me trapped on this side of the Rio Grande/Bravo, since I'm afraid the border will close while I'm in Mexico visiting my parents, so I'm not happy.
Everyone says there ARE cases in both Laredo Texas and Nuevo Laredo, MX, but they won't say anything because commerce between the two cities is vital. If the border closes, we can all go to hell economically. So, everyone's scared. I haven't seen Wolverine because we're afraid we'll catch something at the movies, so you can imagine. My parents have come here twice, and they could care less. In the Mexican side of LAredo, everything's closed, kids don't have classes (not that they would have many anyway, there are more holidays in May than in any other month in the Mexican calendar), so they come here, at least to see some people, since they tell me the streets are deserted...
Here in the American side, the school districts have closed for two weeks, but life goes on. At the university we have finals, so it doesn't give me any free days. ust one more final, though, and I'm off to my beautiful Influenza infested Mexico. I figure I have the same chances of getting it here than there, so to hell with it. The virus isn't going to stop to present a visa at the border, so na.. not to leave aside the fact that San Antonio has a lot of Influenza cases and it's as close to Laredo, as Monterrey is to Nuevo LAredo, so.. the same thing.
And now that I'm finished rambling...
HAve a Happy Cinco de Mayo!!
(something that has puzzled me since I came to the States is that Americans celebrate Cinco de Mayo when in Mexico we barely know what that is.. )
